Chef Tyson’s journey from addiction and chaos to healing and redemption through the grace of Jesus

“And I think that’s why it took me 20 years to come back to the church is because it was never enough. Fear was not enough to get me to come back to the church. Shame was not enough to get me to come back to the church. Honestly, it was love. Love brought me back to the church. So, you know, I’ve got too much proof. I’m still in the culinary world, there’s still temptation, still surrounded by all the same stuff. But I pray every night. I do all the things right? I read my scriptures. I go to church. I take the sacrament. Those things that we teach the little kids in Primary, do it. That stuff’s real.” 00:00 Betrayal 02:08 Introducing Tyson 07:00 Struggles with Shame and Addiction 23:58 Life in the Culinary World 27:40 Battling Inadequacy and Addiction 40:08 Infidelity and Divine Intervention 44:20 Returning Home and Finding Faith 50:23 Overcoming Temptations 53:37 Final Reflections and Gratitude September 5th & 6th COME BACK TO CHRIST EVENT Tickets can be purchased at https://www.comebackpodcast.org/come-back-to-christ-event-september-5-6-utah-valley-convention-center-provo-ut-3/ Come Back to Christ Event Sponsors: Home Home https://www.latterdaymatchmaker.comhttps://www.matthewbraidleypianos.com Home Cozy Earth code COMEBACK for 40% off https://cozyearth.com/ Serve Clothing code COMEBACK for 15% off https://serveclothing.com/ If you have a story to share please contact ashly.comebackpodcast@gmail.com For business inquiries contact info.comebackpodcast@gmail.com Come Back Team: Director, Founder, & Host: Ashly Stone Editor: Cara Reed Outreach Manager: Jenna Carlson Assistant Editor: Michelle Berger Assistant Editor: Britt Smallze Art Director: Jeremy Garcia Production Director: Trent Wardwell
Brent struggled silently as a cop with PTSD, until he sought counseling and returned to Jesus Christ.

“When President Nelson came out and said to repent daily, I’m like, how about hourly? Or every 15 minutes for a while. That’s when I realized, after going through all of this, that I was a better cop. I had learned an empathy that I didn’t know existed in me and I realized that most people are good, even when they’re doing stuff that’s not. I realized that a lot of people were going through things that led them to deal with us. That they were broken too and this is how they coped with being broken. I wasn’t in a different place than they were. My outlet was just different than theirs. But that brokenness was still the same.” Brent’s Podcast: Covered With the Utah FOP https://utahstatefop.com/10-about-the-association https://www.utahstatefop.com/images/Home-officers-in-distress/Officer-in-Distress_-The-Real-EnemyC2A0C2A0_C2A0C2A0The-Salt-Lake-Tribune.pdf https://mikesautoshack.com/ Come Back Team: Director, Founder & Host: Ashly Stone Producer: Lauren Rose Outreach Manager: Jenna Carlson Editor: Cara Reed Assistant Editor: Michelle Berger Art Director: Jeremy Garcia Episode sponsor: Serve Clothing https://serveclothing.com/?gad_source=1
Mark lived a picture perfect life until he fell into temptations in adulthood. After stealing from his work he surrendered to the Lord and completely changed his life.

“Besides my family leaving me, my life couldn’t get any worse. I had hit rock bottom. I met with my bishop and stake president. In my mind I had strayed too far from the path. I just couldn’t see myself becoming the person that I once was. The missionary I was, bearing testimony of Jesus, bringing people to Jesus, and being worthy to exercise the priesthood. It just seemed too distant. But they said I could be clean through the Atonement of our Savior, Jesus Christ, and I could come back from this. I believed them and I had hope in what they said. That’s all I had to go on was hope.” Come Back Team: Director, Founder & Host: Ashly Stone Producer and Senior Editor: Lauren Rose Outreach Manager: Jenna Carlson Editor: Michelle Berger Art Director: Jeremy Garcia

“Getting endowed was the most special day in my life. I had never felt so whole inside as a person, without needing someone else’s approval. I myself did this, and I am ok with being who I am. I have God with me all the time now, and there is nothing else that you really need. That feeling alone was worth anything.” Come Back Team: Director, Founder & Host: Ashly Stone Producer and Senior Editor: Lauren Rose Outreach Manager: Jenna Carlson Editor: Michelle Berger Art Director: Jeremy Garcia
