Religious Scrupulosity Nearly Destroyed Hayli’s Faith … Until She Rediscoverd Jesus Christ

“ No amount of scripture reading, praying, mission serving, nitpicking your husbanding is going to save you. It’s not. Having a relationship with your Savior, Jesus Christ, and your Heavenly Father will. If you know that they love you, and if you let that in, it will change your life in a way that nothing else will.” – Memor Jewelry code COMEBACK for 10% offhttps://memorjewelry.com/ Serve Clothing code COMEBACK for 15% offhttps://serveclothing.com/ – 00:00 Burnout And Needing Grace 05:35 Childhood Exposure And Shame 12:49 Scrupulosity And Mission Spiral 21:36 Marriage Under Perfectionism 27:29 Discovering Scrupulosity 34:35 Letting Go To Heal 36:45 EMDR And Trauma Recovery 45:52 Atonement And Reflections – If you have a story to share please submit here: https://comebackpodcast.org/submissions/ For inquiries contact info.comebackpodcast@gmail.com – Come Back Team: Director, Founder, & Host: Ashly Stone Editor: Cara Reed Outreach Manager: Jenna Carlson Assistant Editor: Britt Smallze Art Director: Jeremy Garcia Production Director: Trent Wardwell

“Our Savior loves us no matter what we do. Whatever comes our way, whatever we do, He loves us, and He’s able to see through the hurt. No father at home and battling addiction, Will finds his true identity through his Father in Heaven

“ I wish I had this knowledge at the age of 12 or even 8 when I was baptized. And I know it was probably preached to me, but I wish I would’ve grasped it. But I wish I knew who I was before. I wish I knew that I was truly a son of God. You can figure out who you are by gaining a relationship with your Father in Heaven. It’s real. It’s almost tangible. There’s times where I say prayers and I feel the spirit so strongly that I’m speechless, you know? I think if we really try to get close to Heavenly Father, He’s not going to hold back.” — Brothaz in the Foyer YouTube podcast: https://m.youtube.com/@brothazinthefoyer — Cozy Earth code COMEBACK for 40% off https://cozyearth.com/ Serve Clothing code COMEBACK for 15% offhttps://serveclothing.com/ 00:00 Struggles with Church and Addiction 06:12 Will’s Early Childhood and Family Background 07:43 Impact of Missionaries and Church Activities 19:23 Realization and Return to Faith 35:31 A Pivotal Bishop Interview 45:41 Mission Challenges and Growth 56:09 Advice for Those Who Feel They Don’t Belong 01:01:02 Closing Thoughts and Gratitude If you have a story to share please contact ashly.comebackpodcast@gmail.com For business inquiries contact info.comebackpodcast@gmail.com Come Back Team: Director, Founder, & Host: Ashly Stone Editor: Cara Reed Outreach Manager: Jenna Carlson Assistant Editor: Michelle Berger Assistant Editor: Britt Smallze Art Director: Jeremy Garcia Production Director: Trent Wardwell
Rajiv grew up in a troubled home, as a young adult he re-reads the Book of Mormon and realizes the gospel is where he needs to be.

“The purpose of the gospel is to restore ourselves to God. And time and time again, Christ has taught that. He’s taught that this is why He did what He did. This is the whole reason why we’re doing this, is to restore you to Me. So it’s about love. The expectations can come later. Once we restore that prodigal hug with the father on the road, once we find that coin, once we put that sheep on our back, then we can bring them back and talk about some expectations. But initially, that first meeting especially is so powerful because it has to be about love. I suggest this not to just church leaders, but also to parents. Just put your arms around them, love them. If that first meeting is an expression – or any type of an expression – of a failure of commitments or a failure of expectations, love can’t fully enter into that person’s heart. So I would say to anyone who’s scared, I hope you understand the gospel is about what you’re about to do. Go and see your bishop and know that God is proud of you and he’s already at the end of the road waiting for you.” Come Back Team: Director, Founder & Host: Ashly Stone Producer and Senior Editor: Lauren Rose Outreach Manager: Jenna Carlson Editor: Cara Reed Assistant Editor: Michelle Berger Art Director: Jeremy Garcia Episode sponsor: Serve Clothing https://serveclothing.com/?gad_source=1

He said, bring the best robe that we have, bring shoes for his feet and prepare this huge feast because he’s back! He was lost and now he’s found! That’s just been absolutely my story so many times. It doesn’t matter how many times I’ve messed up in my life or how many times I’ve fallen short, the Savior is just there all the time. He’s carried me and He’s helped me through every single part of my life to get me to where I am now. To where I’m a wife and a mother and I’m healing and I’m happy! I gave my whole life to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, I gave it all when I wasn’t even sure that I wanted to, and they gave it back to me just entirely renewed.” Come Back Team: Director, Founder & Host: Ashly Stone Producer and Senior Editor: Lauren Rose Outreach Manager: Jenna Carlson Editor: Michelle Berger Art Director: Jeremy Garcia Episode sponsor: Serve Clothing https://serveclothing.com/?gad_source=1
The Stick of Joseph brothers talk about building faith through questions and lessons learned by overcoming personal challenges.

“It was interesting to see where Hayden was in high school to where he was when I came back from my mission and how big of a change that was. I was able to see this with the conversations we were having about the gospel. I saw so much more conviction in him after he put his beliefs on the table and dissected them and then to finding those pillars in which he had to stake his faith on. It allowed me to see his conviction and also to trust him more as a source to go to with the questions I still had – even after serving a mission.” – Book recommendations: Faith is Not Blind, by Bruce C. Justin’s struggles took a toll on his growing family. After realizing what is most important, he was able to turn his heart to Jesus Christ and get his family back.

We went to Hogle Zoo in the dead of winter in January. It was one of the most beautiful memories I have ever had. I can still picture it so vividly. We were almost the only ones at the zoo, the snow was lightly falling, and it was such a spiritual and beautiful moment. I looked at my wife and my two boys and I was thinking I know this is what I want. I started to have that celestial mindset which shifted my whole perspective on life and how I live it now.” https://www.linkedin.com/in/justinbrey?utm_source=share&utm_campaign=share_via&utm_content=profile&utm_medium=ios_app https://hearebrotherhood.app.link/J3QAubu7fDb Come Back Team: Director, Founder & Host: Ashly Stone Producer and Senior Editor: Lauren Rose Outreach Manager: Jenna Carlson Editor: Michelle Berger Art Director: Jeremy Garcia
In three months, Landon went from being an influential member of the anti-Mormon community, to baptizing two of his daughters.

“I still don’t know why stuff has happened the way that it has happened. But that feeling I had when I walked out of that meeting with my bishop – it wasn’t just like ‘Yeah maybe I will go back, I haven’t felt the Spirit in a while.’ No, I was both feet in going to Deseret Book to buy garments. It all came flooding back. Whatever He wanted me to do I was in.” – Recommended: Talk by S. After partying through high school and college, Brooke desperately needed change. She turned toward her Savior and found the light she needed in her life

“Even though I was by myself going to church, looking back on it, I don’t even remember being alone. I didn’t feel alone during this entire process of turning back to Him; I wasn’t feeling alone anymore and I wasn’t scared to go by myself. I got my recommend back and I went to the temple by myself and I never felt alone. I ended up being the happiest I had ever been. I was so excited to have that light come back within me. I just wanted to scream from the rooftops: ‘I feel changed, I feel whole!’” Come Back Team: Director, Founder & Host: Ashly Stone Producer and Senior Editor: Lauren Rose Outreach Manager: Jenna Carlson Editor: Michelle Berger Art Director: Jeremy Garcia
Jaxon struggled with many aspects of the church as a youth, but he learned the value and power of repentance from his mission, as it brought him closer to Jesus Christ.

“For the first time in my life I decided to humble myself and say a sincere prayer. I just wanted to know, ‘God, are you there? What can I do, what do I need to do?’ Immediately after saying that I heard a voice, ‘You need to go back on your mission.’ All of the feelings of anger, frustration, and confusion that I had felt from many past years were gone. I will never forget how at peace I felt and how close to God I felt at that moment. That experience has been the bedrock for everything I have done since in the church because I know that was real.” Come Back Team: Director, Founder & Host: Ashly Stone Producer and Senior Editor: Lauren Rose Outreach Manager: Jenna Carlson Editor: Michelle Berger Art Director: Jeremy Garcia
